How Online Booking Cuts No-Shows for Service Businesses

A missed appointment costs you twice: the empty slot, and the time spent chasing the customer. For a small service business, two or three no-shows in a week can be the difference between a good month and a flat one.
Reminders do most of the work
Automatic email and SMS reminders are the simplest fix available. Most businesses see no-shows drop sharply within the first month, without changing anything else about how they work.
- Send the first reminder 24 hours before the appointment.
- Send a short SMS on the morning of the booking.
- Always include a link to reschedule.
The easier you make it to move an appointment, the fewer people simply fail to turn up.
Let customers reschedule themselves
When customers can pick a time themselves and move it without phoning you, they are far more likely to keep the appointment. A rescheduled booking is still a booking; a no-show is lost revenue.
What to measure
Track the share of bookings that are rescheduled against those that are missed. If rescheduling goes up and no-shows go down, the system is doing its job.
